Youth Take the Lead
Andrew Francis and Yana List, Foundations, Inc.
Out-of-school time programs are most effective when they empower young people to be leaders and decision-makers, not passive attendees. Youth crave independence and opportunities to make a difference – but how do we make that possible? Youth empowerment and leadership must be at the center of program policies, practices and activities. This approach will enable youth to develop the skills required to take the lead in their program and community. In this workshop designed for program directors and site coordinators, we will discuss how to implement an OST youth empowerment and leadership model that builds youth-adult partnerships and enables students to apply leadership skills through social engagement within their communities.
