Engaging and Centering our Students’ Genius and Sense of Agency in STEAM

ABSTRACT:

Participate in a hands-on STEAM activity to learn about the engineering design cycle and complete an engineering design challenge, using hip hop pedagogy to create unique learning experiences for youth. This workshop will activate a community of practice around identifying and centering learning around our students’ genius. This community will define and experience what it means to center our students’ genius and sense of agency in STEM at the secondary level. Our community will also develop plans to incorporate approaches and practices from the session into our own contexts.

EVERFI’s Free Blended Resources for K-12

ABSTRACT:

Join us to gain an in-depth understanding of EVERFI’s free digital library of critical-life skill resources and how to seamlessly integrate them. Using one of the resources from EVERFI’s financial literacy suite of digital courses, you will get to experience technology in a blended learning experience through the lens of a student. Attendees will collaborate to understand financial wellness concepts by engaging in a Price is Right live simulation. In addition to Financial Wellness, EVERFI has collaborated with local sponsors and subject matter experts to develop free content in SEL, STEAM, Digital Safety, Health and Wellness, College and Career Readiness, Early Learning, and more! The digital lessons are all self-grading and standards-aligned, plus teachers are provided with real-time data reporting. As part of EVERFI’s no-cost resources, local implementation support specialists are available to support professional development, 1-1 tech support, and more!
