In this fast-paced and highly interactive hour, participants will engage in super fun (and maybe even a little crazy) writing and performance-based SEL activities. All of the activities presented in the session are designed for team-building, use with students, AND family engagement. Come prepared with your creativity, courage and connectivity!
The Walking Classroom is an innovative, award-winning educational program used in classrooms, out-of-school time programs, and with remote/hybrid learning at home.
Students listen to kid-friendly, curriculum-standards aligned podcasts while they walk, then engage in rich post-walk discussions about the podcast content as well as the included health message and character value. Discussion of the character values (including empathy, perseverance, respect, courage, loyalty, etc.) is very easy in the context of the podcast topic and can extend to the students’ own lived experiences. About 25 podcasts, with supporting lesson plans, are available for free.
Participants in this workshop will learn more about The Walking Classroom, how to implement the program in various settings, the resources that support the program, the free training we provide and how to try the program for free.
Our 2021-2022 edition of Perspectives from the Field focuses on Cultivating Creativity. As always, our host Shawn Petty will lead an interactive conversation with our special guests — where the audience is part of the discussion!
