Developing Student Voice with TTRPGs

Harry Potter, Marvel, X-Men, Game of Thornes….fantasy is a hot commodity today. If Hollywood can harness the power of fantasy, why can’t afterschool? Good news – we can! Our expert presenters would like to introduce you to Tabletop Roleplaying Games (TTRPGs) and show you how they can be an amazing tool to developing confidence and agency in youth, and how to easily to align with the school day with a little creativity embedded as an extra. In this session, the presenters explain the benefits of using TTRPGs in afterschool programs and share why imagination during free play can be a tool to enhance not only academic improvements but self-esteem and character development as well. From the moment participants tune in, they will be engaged in a mini-game to demonstrate the power of TTRPG. After experiencing a TTRPG, the presenter will break down the various tools, curricula, and resources programs will need for starting a campaign/club or even a family engagement event on their campus. Participants will experience through hands-on application, large group activities, and small group discussions on how TTRPGs can be tied to creative problem-solving, school day alignment, SEL, reading comprehension, creative writing and storytelling, acting and improv skills, along with standard math. Don’t miss out, channel your inner fantasy skills, and change the world. We will see you at the Table for our Roleplaying Gaming Event!
