Drones: Fun, Toy, or Educational Tool

In an ever-changing world dominated by emerging technology, drones might be the most versatile and perhaps controversial technology currently available. Drone technology continues to progress and become more dynamic. Meanwhile, real-world applicability for drones is constantly evolving. In this workshop, participants will gain an understanding of the impact that today’s changing technology has on youth development and educational instruction and learn how drones can be used as a motivational tool to teach programming in after-school programs. Utilizing drones in this manner allows for many opportunities to teach computer programming, project-based learning, and to engage students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. What if students could use a modular and programmable drone to acquire a similar understanding of other core subjects and stimulate their interest and engagement in their overall educational experience?
