In several states, new legislation is allowing afterschool and summer learning programs to pilot exciting, innovative opportunities for youth to earn credit for learning taking place outside the school day, Through partnerships with afterschool programs, schools, community-based organizations, and businesses, youth are engaging in learning opportunities that earn credits on high school transcripts. From STEM to arts to career readiness and exploration, the possibilities are endless!
In this session, we’ll examine programs in Alabama and New York that ensure that youth receive credit on their high school transcripts for participating in certain afterschool activities. We’ll discuss best practices for implementing these programs. We’ll also highlight the status of current state legislative and regulatory initiatives and discuss how you can advocate for these opportunities in your state.
